The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out Of Water Official Trailer Overview

It's coming. Today Nick released the official trailer for The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out Of Water! The film hits theaters February 6, 2015. So without further a do, here are my thoughts on the trailer and the movie in general.

After looking at the poster, I imaged lot's of SpongeBob fans we're probably thinking it was going to be all CG. Paramount also screen some of the live action scenes of the movie at Cinema Con and lot's of website reported that it was going to CG animated. If you ask me, I think it's be weird seeing a complete CG SpongeBob movie. The first movie was great being mostly 2D with live action, but CG really only been used for when the characters are walking down a street or etc. in the show. But, I'd still want the see the movie regardless. Anyway, I'm excited for this movie for a few reasons

  1. It's a whole mix of 2D, CG animation and live action.
  2. The 2D will be the same as the animation in show. Nothing's being changed. Two of the animation directors on the show Tom Yasumi and Alan Smart worked on the exposure sheets, plus most of the layout crew is from the show.
  3. Sherm Cohen (Character Designer and lead storyboard artist from Seasons 1-4) came back to work on the movie
  4. The show's cast is reprising the roles (you just can't replace the show's cast)
  5. Slash is making a cameo and Antonio Banderas will be in the movie
Let's get the the trailer itself now. The shows that it's a mix of 2D, CG, and live action. Paul Tibbit did kept true to his word that the film was mostly 2D (they're were a lot of  2D scenes in the trailer). After watching the trailer, there's A LOT of live action shown in the trailer. Most of the trailer featured the live action/CG scenes. Definitely a lot more than the first film, which isn't a bad thing. The backgrounds and the art direction is AWESOME. Definitely movie style. I'd be cool if the show had the same background art direction. The superhero aspect of the film, I honestly wasn't expecting that. But the scenes with Patrick's power of summoning ice cream was pretty funny. The weird is, in their superhero outfits, they're the size of humans, but like the first film, normally,  they're tinny. Another thing is, like the first film and "Pressure", the sea creatures can breathe on land. Plus Sandy isn't the size of an actual squirrel in the movie, she's the same size as SpongeBob, Patrick, Squidward, and Mr. Krabs. It appears the Plankton isn't going to be the villain of this movie, Antonio Banderas is going to be. Also, SpongeBob and co. somewhat act like they've never seen humans before. SpongeBob called a large guy "a giant hairy porpoise", and Mr. Krabs says they need to push him back into the water before the guy crushes them (which reminds me of Snorelax from Pokémon). The only thing that confuses me about the movie is: Where does stand in the SpongeBob timeline? The first movie was supposed to be the series finale and according to Stephen Hillenburg, the first movie takes place after the show. But now that we're getting a second film, does this take place before or after the first movie? Hopefully, we'll find out soon. Anyway, here's the film's trailer below. Do you think this film will live up to the first or be a complete bomb. Tell me what you think about it in the comments. Check it out!!
